Forgiveness Releases Trapped Energy & Pain

By forgiving someone you will not change the past, we cannot ever touch that part of life again, but we can change the NOW and FUTURE for ourselves.  Corrie Ten Boom says it well with, “forgiveness is the key that unlocks the door of resentment and the handcuffs of hatred.  It is a power that breaks the chains of bitterness and the shackles of selfishness – unforgiveness makes you sick, it traps energy in a violent reoccurring cycle and becomes toxic – and this causes pain.”

Not understanding the complexity that is forgiveness is fine, but we all know the numbing pain it delivers if it doesn’t take place.  They say that forgiveness is me giving up my right to hurt you for hurting me.  But us humans, ah us fickle, human humans don’t always understand this truce.  We want to vent, make a scene, and show the world how we have been wronged.  And for what?  Because we are addicted to the attention and care taking that follows a public vent.

We somehow “expect” the world to fix our situations and pain.  Because WE have been wronged dammit!  Instead of quietly sitting and thinking what part WE played for the outcome to be what it is.  We struggle to own up, it’s easier to pass the buck and play the blame game, but even easier to accept condolence and attention for the sorrowful place we end up in.  We become so bitter, and forget that we create the outcome.

Slide1So we are actually chaining ourselves up, sacrificing our own freedoms in the end. “Unforgiveness is choosing to stay trapped in a jail cell of bitterness, serving time for someone else’s crime.” This rings so true for us humans.  It is so HARD to displace blame and even harder to accept the consequences of our actions, so we rather become vengeful.

Roberto Asagioli, say “without forgiveness life is governed by…and endless cycle of resentment and retaliation”, think about that for a moment, think about happy verses resentful.  Now remember, you dealt the cards for this game!
